THE SEEKER AND THE WISE MAN

Once in a jungle, a wise man met with a seeker. How the wise man knew the other one was a seeker? Well, because he really was wise and the other man really was a seeker, that’s why. The seeker asked the wise man enthusiastically, “Oh wise man! Please tell me, what is it that we seek in life?”

“Well, there is something that every organism seeks in life and we strive for it and it is this never ending, perpetual thirst which is the reason for this cycle, this continuum” he spoke wisely.
“Does everyone has this thirst? Do I have it?” asked the seeker.
“The answer lies in the question itself”.
“That’s good, I guess. But what is that thirst? And what is the solution? What do we seek?”
“Those who are speaking about it cannot have the answer and those who have the answer don’t speak about it”.
The seeker was getting a bit irked by the ambiguous replies. But he was programmed to be hopeful and the ambiguity made him certain that the man he is talking to is indeed, a wise man. And as wise man truly was a wise man, he pounced on seeker’s hope and nurtured more confidence out of it. With a lot of hope seeker asked again, “I know that you know the answer and I have a gut feeling that even I know it, but once you will tell me, I will be sure that I knew it all along”.
To seeker’s surprise, wise man gave a straight forward answer “Wisdom”. This made seeker ecstatic “See; now I know that I knew it all along, you have wisdom right?”
“I certainly do.” replied the wise man.
“How did you get it?” questioned seeker, brimming with anticipation.
"Can you handle it?" counter-questioned wise man, smirking.
In an excited voice seeker said, “yes. Tell me right now”.
The wise man came close to him, looked into his eyes and said, “I never trusted what a wise man told me”
The seeker certainly did not see that coming.

  1. Well only if we all realised how true the wise man's advice was.
