ACTORS WHO COULD HAVE BEEN MORE......

It is true that if you really are talented and hard working, one day you will reach the stars you wish to, but in the films industry, especially Indian only talent is not enough. Many great actors spend their lifetimes playing just another fill up character whose presence merely has any impact on the film, but still they manage to steal the show. Not all of them make into the league of Om Puri, Naseerudin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Irffan Khan and most recently Nawazudin Siddique. I have summed ten such actors of hindi cinema who never really got what they deserve.

BALRAJ SAHINI
What should I say about him, he was one of the most talented and natural actors’ Indian cinema will ever see. It is not a rare thing to witness him being appreciated by both masses and the classes. Films like Waqt, Kabuliwala and Do bheega zameen can easily show why he was a master of his craft, even the song “ Ae meri zohar-a-jabeen” is enough for that, but then why is he on this list? Well the answer to it will be that he was not even nominated for any award in his lifetime, leave alone the winning. This shows the authenticity of these awards, when even Salman Khan was given best actor award for Dabangg.

NAVIN NISCHOL
He was an unfortunate misfit in that era of Indian cinema, entered films in 1970, within 2-3 years gave few blockbusters like ‘Victoria no. 203’ & ‘Dhund’ and was widely appreciated in ‘Haste Zakhm’. But more than his acting skills, he became popular for his failed relationships. He was good looking, but was not a phenomenon of the time like Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna or Amitabh Bachchan, was a great actor but was never in the league of Om Puri, Balraj Sahini or Naseerudin Shah. In year 2006 he gave a splendid performance in ‘Khosla ka Ghosla’ at that time hindi films were changing and actors like him were appreciated, but much roles didn’t fall into his lap and in 2011 he passed away due to a sudden heart attack.

RAGHUBIR YADAV
If ever Raghubir yadav opens an acting school, I would suggest all the leading ‘stars’ to enrol in it, there might be a little bend in their high held heads. The man is honoured with two international best actor awards, still no popular maker would even think of making a film with him in lead. Its actors like him and performances like ‘Salaam Bombay’, ‘Water’, ‘Peepli Live’ and many more that gives you hope that there is some art in this business.

KAY KAY MENON
Undoubtedly, Menon is regarded and respected as a very fine actor, but the man has it all to be in the lead, not conventional good looks, but has got a strong personality, and his acting skills are just unique. He is one those actors, who once do a role, you can’t imagine anybody else could have done it. If you have seen ‘Black Friday’, ‘Shaurya’, ‘Gulaal’, ‘Hazaaro Khwaishen Aisi’, then you would know what I mean. He has all the potential to be appreciated like Irffan Khan and Nawazudin Siddique, but he is not, but it’s a hope that my favourite actor will someday get what he deserves

JOHNNY WALKER
Most people remember him as a comedian, and he is a legend in that genre, but categorising an actor is one mistake hindi film industry has always committed. He was one of the most natural actors of his times, when acting was all about walking, talking and a being in a particular style. He was a dear friend of Guru Dutt and he always wanted to cast him in roles apart from comedy, but sadly was never allowed by producers.

ANNU KAPOOR
He is a national award winning actor, brilliant in his craft, even if he is in a movie for two scenes, he will have his impact on the screen, but unfortunately apart from recent ‘Vicky Donor’ we have seen him only for a few scenes in films. Lately he has been doing very less work, but new directors and wave in bollywood we might see more and better of him. His performance in ‘Chameli ki Shaadi’ still gives laugh riots, no matter how many times you see it.

RAJ ZUTSHI
Most of the people don’t even know his name; he has been in the industry for 25 years now. Started his career with Amir Khan in ‘QSQT’ but didn’t anything more than ‘hero ka dost’. Another fine actor with even good looks of being a ‘hero’ atleast in romantic flicks was waisted. If you really want to see his potential watch ‘Machis’

SUPRIYA PATHAK
Everybody who has seen sitcom “Khichdi” must be in awe with the character “Hansa” & her identity was restricted to that for many years, though she is getting some good roles in movies like Wake up Sid, Shanghai and Ram-leela, her credentials go way back to films like Bazaar, Vijeta, Raakh and many. She had it all to be a star ‘heroine’, but may be her plan was simply to be an actor

DIVYA DUTTA
She is one of those actors who probably is a household name, but if you see her line of work, she is not more than 5-10 mins in most of her films, which is injustice for an actor of her calibre, many film-makers, even good ones like Vikramaditya Motwane managed to waste her in their movies

PAVAN MALHOTRA

The man is a terrific actor, be it in Tiger Memon in “Black Friday” or lovable chachaji in “Jab we met” he can wear many hats, if you really appreciate good cinema you certainly want to see more of him
